Hoorae x Walmart: Black & Unlimited Digital Development Program (Cohort 2)

In February 2024, I was selected for year two of the Black & Unlimited Digital Development Program, a creative partnership between Walmart and Issa Rae’s company, Hoorae. This initiative was built to equip emerging Black creators with the tools, mentorship, and exposure needed to thrive in the digital media space — and to help us tell stories that reflect the richness of our experiences.

As a member of this year’s cohort, I developed a series of original, campaign-aligned content pieces that blended creative expression with strategic communication:

  • “Lighting & Textures” – A visually-driven video exploring how light, mood, and melanin interact in beauty and lifestyle content. This piece highlighted the intentionality behind creating content that honors Black skin tones and aesthetics.
  • “Navigating Brand Partnerships” – A candid, insightful video sharing tips and lessons from my journey as a digital creator, with a focus on authenticity, rate negotiation, and building long-term brand trust.
  • Recap Videos – Edited and produced summary content capturing the spirit and energy of the program, both behind-the-scenes and on camera — giving audiences a peek into the creator community being built through this initiative.

This program allowed me to grow as both a creative and a communicator, giving me space to produce polished, purpose-driven content while being in community with other visionary Black creators.
